Lorraine Kelly shares update from doctors after undergoing emergency surgery

ITV Lorraine presenter Lorraine Kelly has said she is "recovering well" following an emergency operation after she "had not been feeling all that well for a little while"

TV host Lorraine Kelly has expressed her gratitude to the medical team involved in her emergency surgery and subsequent recovery. The star has been on the mend after undergoing a "purely preventative" operation to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes, which prompted an outpouring of well-wishes from her followers.

As per NHS guidelines, the bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) procedure is a routine surgery lasting 40-60 minutes. It can assist women experiencing ovarian cysts in their perimenopausal years manage discomfort or stave off the onset of ovarian cancer.


Nearly a fortnight post-surgery, Lorraine took to Instagram to announce her return to work.

On Thursday, May 15, Lorraine posted a photo on Instagram featuring herself, her granddaughter Billie, and Gynaecologist Ahmed Raafat. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter

The Mirror reports she captioned the post: "I had my check up today and the fabulous @ahmed_raafat_gynaecologist_ says I can go back to work on Monday - as long as I take it easy. Billie obviously loved him. Huge thanks to Mr Rafaat and his top team who've chosen to work here and help us - from countries like Croatia, Nepal and all over Europe, Africa and the Caribbean - what on earth would we do without you."

One of her followers responded: "So glad to hear you are better, and you are right our NHS and care system owe a debt of gratitude to overseas workers," while another commented: "Billie makes everything better! Good to hear you're back on your feet."

TV presenter Katie Piper also chimed in: "Lovely to see you smiling. "

Earlier in the month, Lorraine reached out to her fans on social media with an intimate health update.


She said to her followers: "Just wanted to let you know I'm having a wee procedure today.

"I've not been feeling all that well for a little while, so I had some scans and tests, and I have to have my ovaries and my tubes taken out.

"It's purely preventative. It's going to be with keyhole surgery, which is incredible.


"I'm being very well looked after, and I'll obviously see you really soon, and I'm gonna be totally fine.

Recovering nicely a few days later, the TV host shared her progress with viewers as she also marked an impressive achievement for her ITV programme.

On X, previously known as Twitter, the television personality expressed: "Thanx for all your lovely messages I'm recovering well. So proud of my top team - punching above our weight and bucking the trend.

"Just heard our ratings are up - we had the highest March for four years. Thanks @vixkennedy and the gang! Always know how to cheer me up."
